I’m reading the Thoughtful Dresser right now and really enjoying it. I never really believed it was frivolous to care about your appearance but this book certainly reinforces my belief that it is not only ok, but valuable to care about how you present yourself to the world. As I have said before, I don’t have a conventional job where I go into an office every day. When I go out for the day it is often to get lunch, coffee, run errands, see friends and the like. I used to be a bit uncomfortable getting “dressed up” to do these things but realized that I love clothes, I love wearing the clothes I have and who really cares if everyone else around me is in yoga pants. To be blunt it is their loss to not take pleasure in dressing each day. Feeling good about myself, even in the coffee shop, is by far worth the occasional stare or comment.
